Common Name: Grey planthopper

Distribution: NSW, Qld, SA, Tas, Vic, WA, New Zealand.
Economic Status: This species has a wide host range and produces copious quantity of honeydew leading to development of sooty moulds on its host plants. It is not regarded as more than a minor pest.
Notes: The grey planthopper was well known in the literature as Sephena cinerea but this name was synonymised under Walker's Massila unicolor by Medler (1986a). The species is widespread and common across Australia and New Zealand. It usually has a covering of fine greyish powder.
