Nephotettix nigropictus (Stal 1870)

Common Name: Green Rice Leafhopper

Subfamily/Tribe: Deltocephalinae: Athysanini

Distribution: Qld, PNG, Oriental region

Economic Status: The species is a known vector of  rice dwarf phytoreovirus, rice gall dwarf phytoreovirus and rice transitory yellowing rhabdovirus in the Oriental region (Brunt et al. 1990), although not recorded on rice in Qld by Kay and Brown (1992)

Notes: There is some variation in the extent of the black coloration between males and females but the transverse black band on the vertex and the central black patch on the tegmen are distinctive.
