Potato aphid

Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas)

Hosts

This is a large aphid found on a very wide variety of plant hosts.

Distribution

Virtually worldwide.

Identification

All species of Macrosiphum in Australia have the apical section of the siphunculi reticulated. This section is usually slightly narrower than the rest of the siphunculus.

The potato aphid is generally pale in colour with the apical portion of the siphunculi and apices of the antennal and leg segments darker. In some individuals the siphunculi can be dark for most of their length but the base is always pale.
