Bactrocera tryoni (Froggatt)
Common Name: Queensland Fruit Fly Diagnosis: Supra - alar bristles present. Prescutellar bristles absent. Humeral bristles absent. 2 scutellar bristles. Posterior surstylus lobe of male long. Combined lengths of all antennal segments=< vertical len head. Lateral ps vittae present. Costal streak limited to costa - touching R4+5 at margin only. Costal cells cloudy. Humeral calli yellow. Thorax colour generally red/brown with black markings. Mesoontal markings posteriorly with dark basal triangle. Scutellum entirely yellow/pale. Attractant: cue lure (rarely Methyl Eugenol) Larval Hosts: Many vegetables including tomatoes, capsicums, chillies etc; fruit including pome, citrus and many tropical fruit etc. Economic status: Reference: Drew, R.A.I., Hooper, G.H.S.,and Bateman, M.A. (1982) Economic Fruit Flies of the South Pacific Region.
