Siphanta bifida Fletcher

Caution

Many of the insects depicted on these pages are outwardly similar and you should not use photographs as the sole means of identification. These pages form part of a scientific key which will assist a trained entomologist to identify the species accurately.

(Flatidae: Flatinae: Siphantini)

This species can only be differentiated from Siphanta glauca, Siphanta griseoviridis and Siphanta peracuta by examination of the male genitalia. However, it bears a yellow band inside the marginal red line on the tegmen, a feature that has not been observed in other species of Siphanta. This yellow band was retained in specimens that were stored in ethanol. The shape of the paramere, with two dorsal prominences, is diagnostic.
