Genus Bathyllus Stål

Press for checklist of Australian Ledrini
Bathyllus albicinctus (Erichson)

Genus Bathyllus Stål 1866a: 68
Type species: Lepyronia moerens Stål, by monotypy

Generic distribution: Australia

Australian species: Only the type species is known in the genus.

Distribution: All Australian States.

Comments: The beetle-like appearance of this species makes it quite distinctive. It can range in colour from black to pale brown with varying pale marks although the main transverse fascia on the tegmina are always distinct. It is cryptic in habit, feeding at the base of low herbaceous plants. Despite this, the species is well represented in collections. In 2004 it was first found to have established in the Whangerei region of the New Zealand North Island. Evans (1937&ff.) misspelled the genus as Bathylus.
