Type species: Machaerota ensifera Burmeister, by original designation (Philippines)

Generic Distribution: India, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia

Australian species: Two species are known from Australia, M. pugionata from Qld and NT and M. finitima from Qld and PNG.

Comments: The extraordinary extension of the scutellum immediately identifies species of Machaerota from all other Machaerotinae.
