Genus Pectinariophyes Kirkaldy

Pectinariophyes stalii (Spångberg)

Genus Pectinariophyes Kirkaldy 1906: 386
Type species, by monotypy: Pectinariophyes pectinaria Kirkaldy, (synonymised with Pectinariophyes stalii by Maa 1963)

Generic Distribution: Australia, with one endemic species recorded from PNG.

Australian species: Two species are known from Australia, P. stalii (Spångberg) and P. reticulata (Spångberg).

Comments: The genus Pectinariophyes was synonymised with Hindola Kirkaldy by Baker (1927) and listed as a synonym by Metcalf (1960). However, Maa (1963) and Evans (1966) both recognised Pectinariophyes as a valid genus. Hindola is an oriental genus while Pectinariophyes is restricted to Australia and New Guinea. The two Australian species are both commonly collected at lights and are similar in morphology and colour although P. reticulata is larger in size (7-10mm) than P. stalii (5-7mm).
Both species have a strongly convex pronotum curving down to the vertex which is steeply declivous.
