Genus Ouwea Distant

Ouwea doddi Distant

Genus Ouwea Distant 1907a: 292
Type species: Ouwea doddi Distant 1907, by original designation

Synonym: Spendon Jacobi 1928: 26
Type species: Spendon flavonotatus Jacobi 1928, by original designation

Known species: Only the type species, from N. Queensland, is known.

Comments: Emeljanov (2005) resurrected the genus from Catonidia Uhler after Fennah (1950) synonymised the two genera. The type species, O. doddi, is one of the most common Achilini in Australian collections, although its distribution appears restricted to northern Queensland. The genus is recognised by its rectangular, slightly concave vertex which is 2-3 times as wide as long. The species also does not have the second segment of the antennae projecting past the eyes (in dorsal view). Fresh specimens of O. doddi are striking in their dark brown coloration with yellow venation and yellow patches.
