Family Issidae - Issid planthoppers
Chlamydopteryx sidnicus (Kirkaldy)
The Family Issidae contains small brown planthoppers with tegmina longer than wide and pronounced venation. The most common species in eastern Australia is Chlamydopteryx sidnicus (Kirkaldy), shown here, which has distinctive banding on the tegmina. The Australian fauna, which contains many undescribed species particularly in the arid regions of Australia, was reviewed by Gnezdilov & Fletcher (2010) who provided a key to the described genera, on which the key provided here is based.
Emeljanov (1999) transfered the subfamilies Nogodininae, Caliscelinae, Tonginae and Trienopinae out of the Issidae, the first two as families in their own right and the latter two as subfamilies of the Acanaloniidae. Gnezdilov (2007) moved the Tonginae and Trienopinae to the Tropiduchidae.
