Genus Kirbyana Distant
Kirbyana australis (Muir)
Genus Kirbyana Distant 1906c: 262
Type species: Kirbya pagana Melichar 1903 (Sri Lanka), by original designation.
Known Australian species: Only one species is known from Australia, K. australis from far north Queensland.
Notes: This genus was known from up to half a dozen species in several parts of Asia from India to Indonesia but the first record from Australia was made by Löcker et al. (2010) who transferred Ptoleria australis Muir from Eucarpia Walker, where Fennah (1980) had placed it, into Kirbyana. Löcker et al. (2010) provided a detailed discussion of the features on which this decision was made. The easiest distinguishing feature is the absence of crossvein M-CuP in the forewing so that the posterior branch of M forms a common stem with CuP for a short distance (as shown in the key).
