Genus Nesochlamys Kirkaldy
Nesochlamys contrarius Löcker
Genus Nesochlamys Kirkaldy 1907: 115. Type species: Nesochlamys vitiensis Kirkaldy 1907 (Fiji), by original designation.
Known Australian species: Löcker et al. (2010) placed five new species from Qld in this genus which is otherwise represented by single species in Fiji and Vanuatu.
Notes: Within the Eucarpiini, Nesochlamys is distinctive with its narrow head and elongate vertex. Kirkaldy (1907) originally named the genus Nesocharis but this name is preoccupied by a bird genus (a group of estreldid finches found in Africa) so Metcalf (1936) used Nesochlamys, which was published by Kirkaldy (1907) in the same publication and which had been synonymised with Nesocharis Kirkaldy by Muir (1925), as the first available name for the genus. Fennah (1950a) used Nesochlamys in his text but, unfortunately, he still used Nesocharis in his key to genera (Fennah 1950a).
