Genus Novotarberus Löcker & Fletcher
Genus
Novotarberus
Löcker & Fletcher 2006:
125
Type species: Tarberus jacobii Muir
(1931) (New Caledonia)
Known species: N. jacobii (Muir) from New Caledonia, N. remanei from NSW, ACT and Vic, N. flagellospinosus from WA and N. pseudorphninus from WA.
Distribution. ACT, NSW, Vic, WA; New Caledonia.
Remarks. Fennah (1969) synonymised Tarberus with Gelastocephalus by synonymising the type species of both genera as G. ornithoides. Gelastocephalus jacobii (Muir), however, does not match the generic description of Gelastocephalus and a new genus was created for it in Löcker et al. (2006). The two genera differ primarily in the number of spines on the hind tarsi and in the degree of development of the lateral carinae on the postclypeus.
