Tribe Breddiniolini

Hemielissum evansi Emeljanov & Fletcher

Tribe Breddiniolini Fennah 1950: 36

This tribe was originally placed in the family Achilidae with two genera, Breddiniola Muir in West Africa and Breddiniolella Fennah in Fiji. The tribe was transferred to the Derbidae on the basis of the structures of the male genitalia and the presence of crater-like wax pores on the male abdomen by Emeljanov & Fletcher (2004) who added a third monotypic genus, Hemielissum Emeljanov & Fletcher from Australia. The species are easily recognisable by the amalgamation of the lateral carinae of the pronotum to form a distinctive circular pit. The Australian Hemielissum evansi is a black species with pale brown carinae and is usually coated with a whitish powdery material.
