Tribe Rhotanini

Saccharodite chrysonoe (Kirkaldy)

Tribe Rhotanini Muir 1913a: 30

As with the Otiocerini, the planthoppers in this tribe are small and delicate and often appear crumpled in collections because of their fragile structure. They have broader wings than the Otiocerini with the best known and most common species in Australia being the orange and brown Saccharodite chrysonoe which is about 3 mm long and found in moist forests of eastern Australia. A review of the Rhotanini by Zelazny & Webb (2011) increased the known fauna of the tribe from 116 species to 294 and many of these were described from New Guinea and may be present but not yet recognised in tropical Australia. Almost certainly there are many undescribed species still to be recognised in the Australian fauna.
