Genus Euronotobrachys Kirkaldy
Genus Euronotobrachys Kirkaldy 1906: 446
Type species: Euronotobrachys arcuata Kirkaldy (by
original designation)
Synonym: Yarrana Distant 1906b: 206, synonymised by Fennah (1964: 160). Type species: Yarrana sinuata Distant (by original designation)
Known species: Five species are known in this genus, all restricted to Australia.
Comments: Kirkaldy (1906) gives Cairns, Qld as the type locality for E. arcuata and simply "Queensland" for E. plana. Jacobi (1928) extended the known distribution of both species to Western Australia, Broome for E. arcuata and Derby for E. plana. Metcalf (1956: 68) indicates that Jacobi recorded E. plana from South Australia but this is not correct. Fennah's (1964) synonymy of Yarrana with Euronotobrachys added three more species from Qld, one of which is also known from NT.
Kirkaldy (1906: 443) believed that the Australian eurybrachids were all Eucalyptus-feeders although this is now known not to be correct with species in at least two genera apparently restricted to Acacia. He states "Euronotobrachys arcuata was found always in grass, but it had probably been blown or fallen from Eucalyptus". It is possible that the specimens were collected from the ground because they were feeding on one of the prostrate Acacia species, such as A. sophorae from which eurybrachids are sometimes collected.
