Genus Euphanta Melichar

Euphanta munda (Walker)

Type species: Poeciloptera munda Walker 1851: 455

Distribution: Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, Fiji, 

Species: The genus has nine species of which five occur in Australia. Best known is the widespread Euphanta munda (Walker) from NSW, Qld and SA. Other Australian species are: E. luridicosta Schmidt (1904: 359) from Qld, E. insignis Lallemand (1935: 663) from NT, E. acuminata Melichar (1902: 39) from WA, Qld and NSW and E. ruficeps Melichar (1902: 39) from SA and NT.

Note: There are several undescribed Australian species that might be attributed to this genus which is close to Hypsiphanta Jacobi (1928). Further taxonomic work is needed on the genus.
