Genus Mimophantia Matsumura

Mimophantia stictica (Melichar)

Genus Mimophantia Matsumura 1900: 212
Type species: Mimophantia maritima Matsumura 1899, by original designation

Synonyms: Microflata Melichar 1902: 9

Distribution: Japan, Formosa, Indonesia, Australia.

Species: There are three species of Mimophantia, M. stictica (Melichar 1902), from Australia (Qld, NT), the widespread oriental species M. maritima and M. carinata Jacobi in Taiwan. The clearly defined apical row of cells is often broken away (as in the specimen illustrated above). Carver (1992) has suggested that this line of apical cells is naturally deciduous, although the biological purpose of this feature is uncertain.
