Genus Sephena Melichar

Sephena conspersa Melichar

Genus Sephena Melichar 1902: 123
Type species: Nephesa spargula Walker 1870

Distribution: Widespread in the Papuan subregion

Species:  Medler (2001) revised the genus and recognised 53 species which he separated into five species complexes, two of which are represented in Australia: the conspersa complex by S. conspersa and the punctula complex by S. quintena from N. Qld and the Solomon Islands and S. ausena from N. Qld and Torres Strait islands.

Note: The genus Sephena was listed from Australia for many years until Medler (1986a) transferred all the species occurring in Australia to the new genus Dworena Medler. Medler (1989) and Medler (2001) added the three species of true Sephena listed above to the Australian fauna.
