Type species: Poeciloptera acuta Walker 1851
Distribution: All but one (S. expatria Fletcher) are recorded from Australia. The genus extends north to the Philippines and eastward to Hawaii. There are two records of S. acuta from mainland USA [update: 1.v.2001] and records of the same species from South Africa [update: 17.xii.2002]
Species: There are 41 known species of which 40 are known from Australia. The genus was revised by Fletcher (1985) and the illustrated key provided here is based on that publication.
