Genus Plestia Stål

Press to return to species listPlestia sp. (Iron Range, Qld)

Genus Plestia Stål 1870: 768
Type species: Ricania marginata Montrouzier 1861

Known species: A single female specimen of Plestia (species undetermined) is known from Iron Range in N. Qld.

Notes: This genus has more than two dozen species primarily distributed in Oceania from Western Samoa to Fiji with a single doubtful record of the type species from "Nov. Holl." provided by Melichar (1898a). Its presence in Australia based on this record was doubtful. However the discovery of a single female specimen in ASCU from North Queensland confirms its presence in Australia. The genus is identifiable by the presence of four veins originating from the basal cell.
