Genus Ricania Germar
Ricania limbata Lallemand
Genus Ricania Germar 1818: 221
Type
species: Cercopis fenestrata Fabricius 1775, designated by Stål 1866a
Known species: Numerous species in the far eastern Palaearctic (Japan), Oriental, Australasian and Afrotropical regions. A number of species are also known from Africa, Madagascar and the Middle East although whether these are all congeneric remains to be confirmed. Nine Australian species are currently placed in this genus.
Notes: The Australian representation of the genus Ricania clearly needs to be reviewed. In addition, the genus needs to be revised on a world-wide basis to clearly define the generic limits and determine whether the species placed within it are genuinely Ricania. Fletcher (2008) transferred two Australian species from Ricania to Euricania and also noted that the diagnostic features differentiating Ricania and Scolypopa were inadequate. However, the anastomosing crossveins within the cells in species of Ricania are not found in species of Scolypopa.
