Genus Alleloplasis Waterhouse
Genus Alleloplasis Waterhouse 1839: 194
Type species: Alleloplasis darwinii Waterhouse
1839, by monotypy
Known species: Two species are described, the type from King George's Sound, WA, and A. vespula Fennah from Perth, WA.
Comments: These bizarre creatures are found in arid zones across the southern half of Australia. In his original description of A. vespula, Fennah (1949) raised the possibility that A. darwinii and A. vespula were variants of the same species. Further specimens, possibly representing additional species, have been collected in pitfall traps on Barrow Island, NW WA, SA, Vic and NSW and further study is needed to determine whether these forms represent separate species.
