Subfamily Deltocephalinae: Tribe Stenometopiini
Stirellus fatigandus (Kirkaldy)
The group of leafhoppers that are grouped together as the Stenometopiini are linked together on the basis of a strong similarity in the structures of the male genitalia. The pygofer is triangularly produced and the aedeagus is strongly recurved and attenuated to form a long undulating filamentous structure reaching back beyond the basal attachment of the aedeagus (see Methods for technique to examine genitalia)
Most (but not all) of the species have the head produced forwards in front of the eyes and many (but not all) have both a brachypterous and a macropterous form, although the female ovipositor extends well beyond the apices of the tegmina even in the macropterous form.
Hodoedocus bunyensis (Evans)
An unusual species that keys out here is the bizarre Hodoedocus bunyensis (Evans) characterised by an elongate, almost parallel-sided vertex, deep longitudinal keel at the front of the head and short truncate tegmina. The species is recorded in North Queensland and New Guinea.
