Subfamily Deltocephalinae
Many undescribed species of Deltocephalinae are known to occur in Australia. ABRS funding has allowed taxonomic research on this subfamily to be undertaken and these lists will therefore be updated as the descriptions of the new species are published.
The higher classification of the Deltocephalinae is undergoing revision as comprehensive datasets combining morphological and molecular data are analysed. Hamilton (1975) regarded the Eupelicinae, Paraboloponinae and Selenocephalinae as being part of the Deltocephalinae and Linnavuori (1959) suggested that the Penthimiinae should be included as a tribe. These changes were supported by Dietrich & Rakitov (2002). Zahniser & Dietrich (2008) suggested that the Deltocephalinae was a younger name than Penthimiinae which should take precedence but, fortunately, recognised the provisions of ICZN Article 35.5 which allows Deltocephalinae to retain priority. Zahniser & Dietrich (2010) provided a comprehensive molecular and morphological analysis of the higher classification of the Deltocephalinae, including treating the Drabescinae as Subtribe Drabescina of Tribe Drabescini, Paraboloponini as Subtribe Paraboloponina of Tribe Drabescini and Eupelicinae as Tribe Eupelicini with Subtribe Paradorydiina. Further updates to the classification, including transfer of several genera between tribes, were made by Zahniser & Dietrich (2013).
The Deltocephalinae, as presented here, will continue to change as our understanding of the relationships within the Cicadellidae evolves.
