Balala fulviventris (Walker)

The Hylicidae are a small group of large tropical leafhoppers (10-17mm) related to the more widespread Horned Treehoppers (Family Membracidae). The hylicids are mainly SE Asian in distribution with a few species extending to Africa. There are no hylicids recorded in Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand or eastern Indonesia. There are four species in Indonesia west of the Wallace Line.

The hylicids are characterised by a large pronotum which broadens posteriorly, a scutellum medially raised (sometimes as a longitudinal ridge), a flattened abdomen and a sparse covering of scales and hairs on the body.
