Subfamily Coelidiinae: Tribe Tharrini
Tharra labena Kirkaldy
The Coelidiinae have been extensively studied by M.W. Nielson over many years and the Tharrini was covered by Nielson (1975). The Tharrini is widespread and well represented across the Pacific and Oriental regions with numerous species in New Guinea. Few species are known from Indonesia and these are primarily from the far eastern parts, including Maluku (Molucca Islands) and Papua (=Irian Jaya). This may indicate that little collecting has been made in the rest of Indonesia to provide material for Nielson's work. However, only four species (all of the genus Tharra) have been described from Australia. Although this implies that the Australian fauna is largely undescribed, coelidiines are not well represented in Australian collections so the Australian fauna may indeed be depauperate. Tharrini superficially resemble fulgoroid planthoppers with the carinate head set above the level of the eyes and the overlapping tegmina.
