Genus Chinaella Evans
Genus Chinaella
Evans 1936: 76
Type species: Chinaella argentata
Evans, by original designation.
Known species: Four species are known, all restricted to Australia.
Comments: Evans (1972a) described the species of Chinaella as part of the "sparse leafhopper fauna of inland Australia". While they are certainly a feature of inland Australia, recent collecting, particularly around the Kalgoorlie-Coolgardie region of Western Australia and the Calperum region of South Australia, has shown a wonderful diversity of leafhoppers and planthoppers. Evans' (1972a) comment would appear to reflect simply that there had been inadequate collecting in these regions at the time.
Species of Chinaella are easily recognised by the strongly curved vertex, most of which is not visible in dorsal view, and the narrow lateral edge to the pronotum. Some of the species are beautifully marked.
