Genus Vulturnus Kirkaldy
Genus Vulturnus Kirkaldy 1906: 463. Type species: Vulturnus vulturnus Kirkaldy, by monotypy
Known species: Three species from Queensland, and five species in PNG, are known.
Comments: This genus is close to Thaumatoscopus but the species are considerably smaller and the crown, although still foliaceous, is only about as long as the length of the pronotum in the midline. This feature was used by Kirkaldy (1906) to separate the two genera. Evans (1972a) separated the two genera on the basis that T. galeatus had lateral processes on the aedeagus whereas the aedeagal shaft of species of Vulturnus is a simple curved tube without lateral processes.
