Tribe Erythroneurini
Anzygina agni (Knight)
The Erythroneurini are well represented in Australia with many tropical species still to be described. They are mainly extremely delicate leafhoppers and include the smallest Australian forms. Some are brightly coloured, with red, white and black markings but many are uniformly green or yellow. They are reliably identified to species only after examination of the structures of the male genitalia.
The Australian species of this tribe have been under study by the author, funded by ABRS and it is evident that the placement of many of the described species in their current genus is doubtful. The Tribe needs a comprehensive world revision at the generic level to clearly define generic limits to enable confident placement of new species.

Anzygina agni (Knight) [update: added 18.v.2009] Zygina agni Knight 1976: 77 |
NSW, SA, New Zealand |
Anzygina billi Fletcher & Larivière [update: added 18.v.2009] Anzygina billi Fletcher & Larivière 2009: 171 Note: The presence of this species in New Zealand has been confirmed by Thorpe (2013) [update: 8.xi.2013] |

Anzygina honiala (Kirkaldy), nomen dubium [update: 18.v.2009] Erythroneura honiala Kirkaldy 1906: 365 Note: Fletcher & Larivière (2009) noted that this species is apparently based on a single female type specimen, regarded as a syntype. The absence of males makes it impossible to identify as a species but it clearly belongs with other species which they transfered toAnzygina. |
NSW |
Anzygina honiloa (Kirkaldy) [update: 18.v.2009] Erythroneura honiloa Kirkaldy 1906: 365 Note: This species was recorded from several localities in Japan by Ohara (2013). It is uncertain if this is a natural part of the distribution or if the species has been introduced [update: 1.xi.2013]. The species is clearly adventive in Europe (see Thanou et al. 2018) [update 11.v.2018] |
Qld, NSW, Japan, Greece [update: Japan added 1.xi.2013; Greece added 11.v.2018] |

Anzygina lubra (Kirkaldy) nomen dubium [update: 18.v.2009] Erythroneura lubra Kirkaldy 1906:
364 Note: Fletcher & Larivière (2009) noted that this species is apparently based on a single female type specimen, regarded as a syntype. The absence of males makes it impossible to identify as a species but it clearly belongs with other species which they transfered to Anzygina. |

Anzygina zealandica (Myers), the yellow leafhopper Erythroneura zealandica Myers 1923:
424 Known hosts: Knight (1976) lists a wide range of hosts, including herbs, shrubs and trees, in a wide variety of plant families. Genus Empoascanara DistantEmpoascanara Distant 1918: 94 Note: The genus Empoascanara was divided into subgenera when Dworakowska (1976a) apparently transferred the genus Kanguza Dworakowska into the genus as a subgenus, thereby moving all previously described species to the nominate subgenus Empoascanara. Dworakowska (1978) reviewed the genus and recognised a number of species groups, although no mention was made of the subgenus Kanguza. Dworakowska (1979a: 39) added the subgenus Bza Dworakowska. Dworakowska (1992a) reviewed the genus again and recognised 8 "clusters" of species within the subgenus Empoascanara with two species listed in Empoascanara (Kanguza) which is limited to the eastern Oriental region and six species in Empoascanara (Bza) which is distributed across the Oriental region from India to Indonesia. |

Incertae sedisNote: the three species listed here are not appropriately placed in their current genera and their true placement is still to be determined. Erythroneura Fitch is a Nearctic genus and Zygina Fieber is Palaearctic. Both names were extensively used for the placement of Australian species. New genera may be needed for all three species. |
