Genus Katipo Evans
Genus Katipo Evans 1934: 160. Type species: Eurymeloides rubrivenosa Kirkaldy, designated by Evans (1946: 52)
Known species: Three species, all from eastern Australia, with K. pallescens also extending into PNG.
Comments: Species of Katipo are characterised by two spurs on the hind tibia while species of Ipoella and Ipoides, which can be quite similar in general appearance, only have one spur. K. rubrivenosa is one of the most common and widespread species of Ipoini. It has been recorded in all states of Australia except NT and WA. It often, but not always, has red wing venation but this feature can also be found in Ipoella fidelis. K. signoreti can also have red veins and is commonly recorded in Qld, NSW and Victoria. K. pallescens has only been recorded in NSW, Qld and PNG. Examination of the male genitalia is the most reliable means of differentiating the species.
