Genus Malipo Evans
Genus Malipo Evans 1966: 54. Type species: Ipo speciosa Evans, by original designation
Known species: Two species are known, the type from WA and M. bianchii, in Qld and NSW.
Comments: The type species is not common but M. bianchii is well represented in collections from NSW and Qld. It is a reasonably large species with distinct pale fascia on the wings. Evans (1966) indicates that it is slightly larger than M. speciosa with the face wider than long rather than as wide as long. It has the appearance of a dark form of Katipo although the male genitalia indicate that it has affinity to Ipo in which genus the type species was originally placed. Confirmation of identification of Malipo is dependent on an examination of the genitalia because the broad shape of Ipo and the pale colour of Katipo are both somewhat variable features.
