Genus Stenipo Evans

Press for checklist of Australian Ipoini Stenipo torpens (Jacobi)

Genus Stenipo Evans 1934: 155. Type species: Stenipo swani Evans, by original designation

Known species: Three species are known, S. bifurcata from SA and S. swani and S. torpens from WA.

Comments: The only species known to the author of these pages, S. torpens, has the front margin of the vertex undulated so that the vertex is wide in the centre and against the eyes but narrower on each side. Whether this is typical of all species remains to be confirmed. Evans (1966) draws attention to the fact that S. bifurcata and S. torpens differ from the type species in features of the male genitalia. Whether Stenipo is a valid genus separate from Ipoides needs to be examined.
