Genus Sarantus Stål

Sarantus Stål 1863: 592; Day 1999: 712. Type species: Sarantus wallacei Stål 1863, by original designation (PNG)

Known species: Several species are known in PNG. In Australia, two species are known but only S. nobilis Kirkaldy from N.Qld is named.

Distribution: PNG, Qld, NSW, NT

Comments: This is a distinctive genus with the forwardly projecting lateral pronotal processes, elongate median process and generally black and shining appearance. Sarantus nobilis is also one of the largest Australian membracids being 9-12mm in length.
