Genus Alseis Kirkaldy

Press for checklist of Australian ThymbriniAlseis osborni Kirkaldy

Genus Alseis Kirkaldy 1907: 37
Type species: Alseis osborni Kirkaldy, by monotypy

Known species: Seven species from SE Qld and far NE NSW are known.

Comments: The genus was revised by Stevens (1991b) who added six new species to the type species. The most distinctive feature of the genus is the presence of an elongate, forked process extending ventrally from the anal segment of the male. In addition, all known specimens have the front half of the pronotum distinctly darker in colour than the hind half.

Single male specimens of Alseis from Mt Kaputar and South Mullion Reserve, near Orange, NSW may represent additional undescribed species or may be variations of A. awoongaensis Stevens, described from Gladstone in Qld.
