Genus Thymbris Kirkaldy
Thymbris convivus (Stål)
Genus
Thymbris
Kirkaldy 1907: 49
Type species:
Thymbris
inachis Kirkaldy, designated by Evans 1947d:
137
Known species: Four species have been described from all States of Australia except Tas.
Comments: The type species (now synonymised as T. convivus) is superficially similar to Rhotidus teliformis in being large (14 - 16mm in females, slightly smaller in males), pale brown in colour and having the ovipositor of the female extending beyond the tegmina. However, the shape of the head differs, with the crown of R. teliformis being broadly arrow-shaped, clearly separated from the face at an acute angle and bearing the ocelli dorsally and remote from the front margin. In T. convivus the crown is not arrow-shaped, is more rounded into the face and the ocelli, although on the crown, are close to the front margin. Other species in the genus are quite beautifully marked, especially T. melvillensis.
